Tapping to Relieve Fear of Covid-19

The fear of getting Covid-19 the scourge of 2020/2021, seems rampant. It doesn’t help your mental stability nor feelings of safety while worrying that someone is going to pass the virus to you. Worry can be so debilitating. So what can you do? Use EFT to help restore peace of mind.
First, choose a number of how strong your fear of getting covid is on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst and you need a shot to calm you down. Write your number down so you may remember it. Then use your tapping skills.

  • Side of the hand: Even though I feel so uncomfortable realizing that I could go down with the virus and never be the same again, I deeply and completely forgive and honor myself.
  • ETI (Even though I) think about the possibilities of having permanent lung damage or loss of smell, I forgive and honor myself.
  • ETI worry about dying if I catch this ugly virus, I know I will be okay.
  • Inner eyebrow: Sometimes I just feel anxious.
  • Side of eye: So many people have gotten covid.
  • Under eye: Hearing about it day in and day out on the news just worries me
  • Under nose: It seems to be everywhere.
  • Chin: Evil particles floating on the wind, looking for a moist throat.
  • Clavicles: I tend to feel alarm the minute someone sneezes or coughs.
  • Under arm: I worry each time I cough or feel really tired.
  • Top of head: Should I go get tested?

Next round:

  • Side of hand: Even though sometimes I get overwhelmed with worry about the Covid 19 virus, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.
  • ET just thinking about getting sick seriously worries me, I forgive and love myself.
  • ET it’s distressing me to see others go without a mask, I know I can let this go.
  • Inner eyebrow: I feel so vulnerable when I have to grocery shop
  • Side of eye: There are people out there who don’t wear masks
  • Under eye: It’s just not right.
  • Under nose: Who do they think they are?
  • Chin: I find myself being this angry person
  • Collarbone: I resent that I feel so angry
  • Under arm: I’m tired of wearing a mask, but I do it any way.
  • Top of head: Eeks! Did I get the virus?

Do another round. As you tap, continue to say whatever comes up for you, stating all your concerns. Check back on your number and see if it is reduced. Continue tapping on the anxiety until the number is lower.

Then, do a positive round:

First, choose a number of how strong your upset is on a scale of 1-10. Write it down so you may remember it.

Anger with another

Side of hand: Even though sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with hatred for certain people or situations, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.

Even though I really hate her/him/them, and s/he brings up so much anger within me, I deeply and completely forgive and honor myself.

Even though just thinking about her/him seriously aggravates me, I know I can let this go.

Top of head: Sometimes I would like to smother her.

Top of eyebrow: I just hate her so much

Side of eye: For some reason she just makes me so angry

Under eye: She presses my buttons

Under nose: She knows just how to make me angry

Chin: And I find myself being this angry person

Collarbone: I even resent that I feel so angry

Under arm: She really irritates me.

Top of head: What an obnoxious person.

Do another round. As you tap, continue to say whatever comes up for you, no matter how unpleasant. Check back on your number and see if it has come down. Continue tapping on your upset until the number is lower.

Then, do a positive round:

Even though these family members make me so angry, I’m choosing to look at why this is so.

Even though I’m feeling all this hatred, I’m choosing to look at this as a gift that will show me a path for growth.

Even though I have this anger, I’m choosing to  accept it and move on to a higher understanding.

Top of head: She is just reminding me of something within me.

Top of eyebrow: Wow, that hit a nerve and I wonder why…

Side of eye: Maybe it is worth exploring why I’m reacting so badly.

Under eye: It is hard to face those parts within me.

Under nose: I’d rather not admit that I have a problem here.

Chin: Easier to pin this on someone else.

Collarbone: I’m choosing to work on this issue.

Under arm: I’m choosing to love and accept her and myself and all our flaws.

Top of head: I’m strong, and I’m moving on with my life, letting go of my anger.

Self Love

If you are not familiar with EFT tapping, please go to Emotional Freedom Technique Instructions to learn the basics. To begin, it is useful to get a number and write it down regarding how strongly you feel about the issue you are tapping on. Use the scale of 1-10, with 10 being the highest distress.

Side of hand: Even though I don’t feel good about myself right now, I’m going to love and accept myself anyway.

Side of hand: Even though I feel stress in my body when I don’t like myself, I forgive and honor myself.

Side of hand: Even though I don’t feel comfortable with myself, I’m willing to let some of it go now with ease and joy.

Inner Eye:  I don’t like myself.

Outer Eye: I don’t think anybody else does, either.

Under eye:  I haven’t got anything in particular to like about myself.

Under nose: I make the wrong choices and everybody knows

Under bottom lip: And it’s depressing.

Clavicles: It feels unsafe.

Under Arm: I have a low level anxiety all the time.

Top of head: I always seem to say that wrong thing

Take a breath and have a sip of water, then continue:

IE:  I don’t have the confidence I need

OE:  It is so icky feeling this way.

UE:  It’s so painful

UN: So many beliefs about worthlessness.

UL: Sometimes, I just hate myself

C:  I don’t like the way I look.

UA: I have no self-confidence

TH: Sometimes, I even feel dread being around others.

Check your number. Has it gone down? Write the new number down.

Continue your rounds, using phrases that apply to you until your body begins to relax a bit. When your number has gone down, and you are less stressed and ready to bring in some peace, finish up with these three rounds.

Side of Hand: Even though I worry too much what others think, I completely love and accept myself
S of H: Even though I don’t give myself a break, I forgive and honor myself
S of H: Even though I’m really hard on myself, I’m ready to start loving myself now.

IE:  It’s hard always worrying what others think

OE: I am tired of beating myself up

UE: I want to be able to relax

UN: I wish to stop being defensive

UL: It’s important to me to feel accepted

C:  To not need other people’s approval so much

UA: Free to relax a bit

TH: Free to stop second-guessing myself

IE: Taking a deep breath in and exhaling.

OE: Can I move toward some peace?

UE: Is there a way to feel a little bit safer?

UN: Can I find a way to let some of this go?

UL: Can I relax a bit?

C:  Yes, I know I can

UA: It’s already better

TH: My body is relaxing some

 

IE: Just letting some of this disapproval go

OE: Tapping will help

UE: I’m feeling more in harmony

UN: Being able to breathe

UL: Taking a deep breath

C: Letting some of this go.

UA: Finding some calm

TH: Allowing relaxation into my body.

Now, check into your body. What number do you have on the number of 1-10? It is likely to go down even more over the next day or so.

  • Can you move your number even a little bit down in order to self soothe? Sure. Just keep tapping and adding things to tap on that bother you about your lack of self confidence.
  • Can the low self esteem return? Yes. You can say to yourself “Ah, I recognize this old pattern. I’m glad I caught it this time.”
